The Ebony Hairpin draws its form from the traditional Chinese chai (钗), a hair ornament worn in China for over two thousand years. Its long, gently curved prongs rise into a distinctive fan-shaped top, creating an elegant architectural silhouette.
Hand-carved from ebony, the openwork top features a blossom motif, revealing the precision and craftsmanship behind each carved detail. The carving allows light and space to pass through the dark wood, giving the piece a sense of delicacy.
Carefully polished, the ebony reveals its deep natural tone and subtle grain. With time and wear, the surface develops a richer sheen and character, becoming more beautiful the more it is used.
Material: Natural ebony wood
Length: 17 cm
- Each piece is carved and polished by hand, without lacquer or coating, preserving the natural colour and character of the wood.
- As a natural material, ebony may show variations in colour, grain and small pores. Subtle carving marks and differences between pieces are also a natural result of the handmade process.
- A slight transfer of natural wood pigment when wiping is normal.
- Occasionally, a fine white, frost-like residue may appear on the surface, particularly when newly crafted wood is stored in an enclosed space. This is a natural characteristic of the wood and can be gently removed with a soft, dry cloth.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to water, direct sunlight and excessive heat.
- Keep away from alcohol, disinfectants and harsh chemicals, which may damage the natural wood.
- Handle with care to avoid scratches, drops and contact with hard surfaces.
- Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. Regular use and handling can help the wood develop a richer natural sheen over time.
